Wool: The Perfect Companion for the Cold Months

Red Tender Wool blanket

With the arrival of autumn and winter, it's time to reach for materials that not only offer a comforting hug, but also provide warmth. A proven choice that can handle even the coldest months is wool, either classic wool, soft merino or luxurious cashmere.

Classic Wool, Merino and Cashmere – The Differences and Similarities

Classic Sheep Wool

Classic wool is a basic natural fibre obtained by shearing sheep. Sheep's wool is naturally warm and wicks away moisture whilst maintaining thermal comfort.

Merino Wool

Merino wool is obtained from the Merino sheep breed, and is one of the finest wools out there. Thanks to its thinner fibres, it bites less and is extremely soft to the touch. It is ideal for those who prefer soft fabrics with excellent insulating properties.

Cashmere

Cashmere is extracted from the undercoat of Kashmir goats and is a synonym for luxury. It is a lightweight, incredibly soft material that provides the ultimate feeling of comfort and warmth. Blended with merino wool, this fabric offers exceptional comfort and durability.

The Amazing Benefits of Wool

Wool is a natural thermoregulating material. It keeps you warm in winter without causing overheating and wicks away moisture effectively. Another of its benefits is that it‘s odour resistant and has natural antibacterial properties, reducing the need for frequent washing and water consumption. Wool can last for years looking like new when taken care of properly.

Responsible Production of Lejaan Blankets

Lejaan offers blankets made of classic wool and merino wool blended with cashmere. All our wool is sourced from New Zealand - a country that prides itself on its high standards of sustainability and environmental friendliness.

Wool is, among other things, a renewable resource that is obtained by shearing sheep or goats on a regular basis without causing any harm to the animals. There is no need to use chemicals in their farming, which means that the whole process, from shearing to processing the fibres, leaves a minimal ecological footprint. This means that wool products are not only functional but also planet-friendly, which is a key feature for us at Lejaan.
